Audi drivers Lucas Luhr and Marco Werner lead the chase for the LMP1 (LeMans Prototype Class 1) Drivers’ Championship with just four races left in the 2008 American LeMans series.

The Audi driving pair captured their sixth 2008 ALMS victory this past weekend at Road America, a 4-mile long, 14-turn course set midway between Chicago and Milwaukee in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Audi also marked its second consecutive 1 – 2 finish in the series, when teammates Marcel Fassler and Emanuele Pirro crossed the finish line just 2.436 seconds behind the first place Audi.

“Despite the many cautions in this race, the Audi team demonstrated great patience and showed their prowess on the track,” said Johan de Nysschen, executive vice president, Audi of America. “The Audi diesel sports cars were the fastest on the track, once again demonstrating the advantage of clean diesel technology.”

Four races remain for the Audi team in order to repeat as ALMS LMP1 champions. On August 24th the team heads to Bowmanville, Onatrio, Canada for the Mobil 1 presents the Grand Prix of Mosport. That event will be telecast live on SPEED beginning at 3:00 p.m. The Detroit Sports Car Challenge presented by Bosch will be the next race on August 30th. The Audi team then heads south to Petit LeMans in Braselton, GA, for the 11th running of the Road Atlanta course. The season concludes in Monterey, CA, with the Monterey Sports Car Championships on October 18th.
