Audi’s Clean Diesel A3 Drives Halfway Across America on 46 MPG
October 15th, 2008 | by Stephen D |After driving over 2,800 miles and covering half of the United States, Audi’s TDI clean diesel vehicles are passing the real world endurance test by posting admirable fuel efficiency numbers. With about 2,000 miles left in Audi’s cross country Mileage Marathon, the Audi A3 TDI has averaged 46 mpg over the entire drive, the Audi A4 vehicles have averaged 39 mpg, and the Audi Q5 TDI vehicles averaged 33 mpg. The Audi Q7 TDI vehicles, clean diesel SUVs which will be the first TDI vehicles available in the Unites States early next year, averaged an excellent 28 mpg over the first two legs.

THE LEADERS
Along the route, teams of drivers and journalists are competing for the best efficiency totals based on miles-per-gallon and average speed. During the four day second leg, the lead over all vehicles in fuel economy with 46 mpg was the Audi A3 Sportback TDI.
